Haynes 242 has high tensile and creep resistance up to 1300 \u00b0 F (705 \u00b0 C). The thermal expansion of the Haynes 242 alloy is much lower than most other alloys and has very good oxidation resistance up to 1500 \u00b0 F (815 \u00b0 C). Other attractive features of the Haynes 242 include excellent low-speed fatigue characteristics, very good thermal stability and resistance to high temperature fluorine and fluoride environments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 PROCESSING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haynes 242 alloy has very good forming and welding properties in annealed condition. Haynes 242 can be hammered with traditional techniques or otherwise processed hot and can be easily cold formulated. The welding for Haynes 242 can be performed in the annealed state using standard gas tungsten arc (GTAW) or gas metal arc (GMAW) techniques. For Haynes 242, it is recommended to use filler metal from its own material.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 HEAT TREATMENT<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Haynes 242 alloy is quenched, unless otherwise specified. Haynes 242 is generally annealed in the range of 1900-2050 \u00b0 F (1038-1121 \u00b0 C) depending on the specific requirements, followed by air cooling (or faster cooling) prior to aging.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 APPLICATIONS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haynes 242 is an ideal material for various component applications in the aerospace industry. Haynes 242 is used for sealing rings, retainer rings, duct sections, crates, fasteners, rocket nozzles, pumps and others. In the chemical process industry, Haynes 242 is used in processes involving high temperature hydrofluoric acid vapor. Haynes 242 also exhibits excellent resistance to high temperature fluoride salt mixtures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 CORROSION RESISTANCE<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Haynes 242 alloy shows good corrosion resistance in the seawater environment containing sodium sulphate at a temperature of 1200 \u00b0 F (650 \u00b0 C).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haynes 242 is not specifically designed for applications requiring resistance to aqueous corrosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studies have shown that materials with high molybdenum content and low chromium content are superior to Haynes 242 over other materials in terms of resistance to high temperature corrosion in fluorine-containing media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Haynes 242 alloy is highly resistant to nitriding environments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resistance of the Haynes 242 alloy to hydrogen fracture is equivalent to the approximate 625 alloy and is superior to many important materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 MACHINING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Haynes 242 alloy has excellent forming and welding properties. If the whole piece is soaked for a time sufficient to bring it evenly to the temperature, it can be hot-machined at about 1800-2250 \u00b0 F (980-1230 \u00b0 C).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result of the ductility property, the Haynes 242 alloy was also formed by the cold process. All hot or cold machined parts are annealed at 1900-2050 \u00b0 F (1038-1121 \u00b0 C) and must be cooled at a speed of cooler or faster before aging at 1200 \u00b0 F (650 \u00b0 C).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haynes 242 can be caused by various processes including gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc and shielded metal arc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 WELDING PROCESSES<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Haynes 242, welding processes common to nickel-based alloys are recommended. No preheating is required. Cleaning is critical and prior to welding, grease, oil, paint marks, workshop soils and so on. Caution should be taken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haynes 242 alloy must be combined using matching metal. If shielded metal arc welding is used, Hastelloy W alloy coated electrodes are recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>HAYNES 242 HEAT TREATMENT BEFORE WELDING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Haynes 242 alloy is normally used in its fully aged condition.
