NITRONIC 40 (ALLOY 21-6-9, UNS S21900 / S21904, XM-10)

Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) is a nitrogen hardened stainless steel containing high manganese. Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) initial properties are high strength in annealed condition, excellent corrosion resistance at high temperatures, easy welding and processing capability. Thanks to these features are used in many aviation applications. Even at temperatures below -254 ° C, the ability to combine high strength and toughness properties makes the Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) very suitable even for applications in freezing temperatures.

NITRONIC 40 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) is a high manganese austenitic stainless steel. Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) exhibits high strength, excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures and good corrosion resistance at ambient temperatures.

Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) Easily manufactured and welded.

NITRONIC 40 (XM-10, ALLOY 21-6-9) APPLICATIONS

Among other applications, Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) has been used for chemical process and pollution control equipment, steam and autoclave applications, and various aircraft engine components.

NITRONIC 40 (XM-10, ALLOY 21-6-9) FORGING

The normal forging temperature for Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) is 2100 / 2200ºF (1150 / 1205ºC) and can be quickly cooled by being pounded. For best wear resistance, the parts are annealed after forging.

NITRONIC 40 (XM-10, ALLOY 21-6-9) HEAT TREATMENT

Annealing is best used for tensile strength and operating temperatures of 1300 / 1600ºF (705 / 870ºC).

Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) annealing is normally made between 1800 / 2150ºF (980 / 1175ºC), determined by temperature hardness requirements and grain size limitations.

NITRONIC 40 (XM-10, ALLOY 21-6-9) WORKLESS

Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) can be processed using techniques for hard austenitic stainless steels, solid equipment and adequate cooling are required. The use of carbide tools compared to high-speed steel tools will result in significant increases in chip removal speeds and speeds.

NITRONIC 40 (XM-10, ALLOY 21-6-9) WELDABILITY

Nitronic 40 (alloy 21-6-9) can be welded using shielded fusing and resistance welding methods.
